Based in Orange County, California, TBG Equity was originally formed in 2012 as a hybrid search fund to invest in or acquire companies in the Western U.S. with EBITDA from $2m-$7m. The firm's capital resources may be used to provide full or partial liquidity to entrepreneurs, family members, estates, passive investors, or corporate owners.
While our team is considered investors, we are more owner/operator focused, having completed four turnaround transactions since 2019, and have patient private capital as we understand making material business changes can take time. We work with founders, children/grandchildren of founders, or management to build value for the long-term without the need to think about “exits” or “timeliness.” This allows us to make decisions based on sound business strategy and maximizing long-term value.

We Take Responsibility
It is critical to note that we are not consultants, we put our own financial capital in every transaction and “roll up our sleeves” to help build and grow the company the right way. Given our beginnings as a search fund, we prefer to be involved in our partnerships and not just give instructions from a distance behind a financial model. We may help formulate strategy, recruit management talent, source acquisitions, access industry connections, raise growth capital, or frankly just be someone to speak with during a tough time. Small business is in our core DNA, and we stand there every day with management.
While we do work with investment bankers and other intermediaries, our preference is to work directly with sellers who have a genuine concern for what happens to the business and employees in the future. This allows us to be much more flexible and creative in our structures because we genuinely get to understand the concerns and desires of a seller. For sellers who are only interested in getting top dollar via a bid auction process and have little concern to what happens after the sale, we are just not the right group.
